A Final Discourse

22:21 “But look, the hand of the one who betrays ⁹  me is with me on the table. ¹⁰

[1:58]  ³ tn The verb συνέχαιρον (sunecairon) is an imperfect and could be translated as an ingressive force, “they began to rejoice.”

[5:32]  ⁴ sn I have not come is another commission statement by Jesus; see 4:43-44.

[5:32]  ⁵ sn Though parallels exist to this saying (Matt 9:13; Mark 2:17), only Luke has this last phrase but sinners to repentance. Repentance is a frequent topic in Luke’s Gospel: 3:3, 8; 13:1-5; 15:7, 10; 16:30; 17:3-4; 24:47.

[9:6]  ⁶ tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[9:6]  ⁷ tn This is a distributive use of κατά (kata); see L&N 83:12 where this verse is cited as an example of the usage.

[22:21]  ¹⁰ sn The point of Jesus’ comment here is not to identify the specific individual per se, but to indicate that it is one who was close to him – somebody whom no one would suspect. His comment serves to heighten the treachery of Judas’ betrayal.
